ROOF REPLACED ON THE
HISTORICAL SOCIETY BUILDING
The Board of Directors of the Bland County Historical Society has embarked on the first major restoration project on the Society building (former Bland County Jail) since taking occupancy in October 2009. The roof on the jailhouse extension and the porch roof will be replaced with a new, medium-gray metal roof. After a successful bid campaign, the Boyd Coffey Construction Co, a licensed and bonded construction company from Max Meadows, VA, will begin work immediately, weather permitting. The bid for this project was $7,180.00.
The roof on the original, two-story jail building is in good shape, and will be painted the same medium-gray color later this year.
The Society is seeking funds to help with the cost of this new roof project, and hopes that county citizens and interested out-of-town folks will be able to send a tax deductible donation to help provide a safe and suitable depository for Bland County historical items.
Checks, made out to the Bland County Historical Society, may be sent to the Society at PO Box 416, Bland VA 24315. Please list “roof project” on the memo section of your check. A receipt will be returned to the donor for their records.

At the end of January 2011, the Bland County Historical Society replaced the roof on the building adjacent to the original old jail building. A fund raising effort was initiated to help with the cost of the project, and as of February 25, donations in the amount of $4335.00 have been received.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY ROOF PROJECT
The Bland County
Historical Society is continuing to receive donations for the new roof
project. A new roof was installed on the building adjacent to the
original old jail building during the last week of January. Further
estimates are being sought to repaint the existing roof on the old
building, and to replace all the guttering on the entire complex. To
date, $6040.00 has been received to help with this project.
